What is OITAF?
OITAF, the International Organization of Ropeway Transportation (Organizzazione Internazionale Trasporti a Fune), founded in 1959 in Milan, is the only international organization of the ropeway business. It has members from 31 different countries, from all the continents of the world.
OITAF was created to address the interests of all three categories in the ropeway business, namely:
- Operators of cableway transport installations and ski facilities;
- Manufacturers of such ropeway systems;
- Public authorities and agencies representing governments and users.
OITAF members include the majority of the institutions working with development and research in the field of ropeway transportation, such as universities and laboratories, as well as individuals whose work and interests focus on ropeway transportation.
Objectives of OITAF
- Promote the development of the ropeway business;
- Promote studies, experiences, and research aimed at developing the ropeway business;
- Adjust and harmonize the respective national legislations to the needs of ropeway systems;
- Prepare international guidelines and recommendations for the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and control of ropeway systems;
- Organize and conduct the international ropeway congress (every six years);
- Organize annual technical seminars.
